Where we can find iodine?

The amount of iodine depends on the content of iodine in water and soil of the region. The grocery rich in iodine are seafood (sea fish, mussel, alga, lobster, seaweed...), fish oil, iodised salt, and much less in meat, eggs, milk, garlic, pineapple, pear, lemon…Mountains regions with glacial erosion are very threatened by iodine deficiency. In these regions appear the most severe forms of iodine deficiency- endemic goiter and cretinism. In our country that was the region of mountain Kopaonik. In Vojvodina, as a part of previous Panonian sea, the amount of iodine in the soil is small but enough. For this reason, mineral water "Minaqua"is unique mineral table water since it contains naturally dissolved iodine; the content of iodine in two glasses satisfies the daily need for iodine. To prevent permanent, severe mental and physical retardation, iodine is added into salt in our country since 195 - 20mg of iodine for 1 kg of salt. The daily need for iodine is satisfied with 7-8 g of this salt (2 teaspoons). In the other regions in the world the compounds of iodine are added into water sources or we take iodine though mineral oils or through the pills.
